Oui, en fait! Je parle pour ce phénomène dans cette vidéo-icitte: ruclips.net/video/IS_1NH0H1A0/видео.html C'est en fait pas commun en Louisiane. Tu vas le trouver presque seulement dans le sud du Bassin de Lafourche dans la Paroisse de Lafourche et la Paroisse de Terrebonne. Dehors de la Louisiane, on trouve cette manière de parler alentours la Baie Sainte-Marie en Nouvelle-Écosse et pis dans quèques régions au Québec, notamment aux Îles de la Madeleine et dans la région de Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. Ça s'trouve même en Guadeloupe et à la Sainte-Lucie aux Antilles. En France, cette particularité linguistique s'trouve dans le poitevin-saintongeais, ce qu'est sans doute à l'origine du phénomène qu'on voit dans tous les variétés que j'ai mentionné en haut.

haha Trust me, I can empathize! But in our defense, jokes are inherently more difficult to understand in any language, especially if they include a play on words or very specific cultural references. And they always tend to tell the jokes really quickly and/or they and others are laughing while they tell the joke. The punchline especially is always more difficult for me to get.

By the way, I’ve also experienced something similar with old recordings of jokes told in English from 50+ years ago, and it’s usually due to cultural references from that time period that no longer make sense to a contemporary audience.

C'est en vois de disparition, malheureusement mais on est après (en train de) s'battre pour nos droits linguistiques et y a des jeunes comme moi qui sont après transmettre la langue à nos enfants!

@@Louisianish Mo komprenn ! Mé mo apresye li ! I find that I learn best from recordings, and like you said, they are definitely harder to come by! When I started my journey in language learning I began with Hawaiian first which is also an endangered language(they were also forced to speak english) They have like a one stop shop site for all of their recordings of native speakers, literature/childrens books, and even a radio show where they speak only in Hawaiian from the 70s ill send it to you- its really cool to see how they have gathered every resource possible for the public to learn.

Exactement! Jean Gisclard was the first one to come over back in 1754. Il état un soldat dans les Compagnies franches de la marine. They were indeed Creole. And his mother-in-law, Catherine Fougère Luquet is identified as being "une Créole de Biloxy (Biloxi)" in my records. Her parents were both from France. She was born in the Louisiana territory and therefore was Creole. Do you descend from Gisclairs? Are we related?

@@Louisianish Mais, quoi ça dit, cher! I’m glad you replied because this is always an interesting topic. I’m not actually a Gisclair, I’m just familiar with common Louisiana surnames and I dabble with genealogy a bit. I’ve tracked the immigration of various common Louisiana surnames and as of recent I’ve been creating surname lists based on where said surnames came from. I started the lists originally to document the surnames of Cajun-identified Louisianians, as I long noticed many people without Acadian surnames were claiming to be Cajuns (Acadians in Louisiana). I followed the history involved there and it led to the modern group today (the Cajun-identified group) that were not Acadians as they led folks to believe, but were a group made up of origins primarily from the mixture between Acadians and French Creoles (Louisiana whites of French and Québécois descent) to make up the bulk of the ancestry, but with minor admixture from other white Creoles like Spanish Creoles and German Creoles. Cajun-identified people with Acadian surnames also are included in that as they too are ancestrally mixed as well. I later started adding surnames of Creole-identified white Louisiana groups as well (most were from the New Orleans area and the northern part of Acadiana in the St. Landry-Evangeline-Pointe Coupee area. I plan on adding surnames from mixed race and black Louisianians to a surname list that are Creole-identified as well (also south Louisiana Native Americans with colonial surnames), many of which they all share with Cajun-identified and Creole-identified white Louisianians. As you may know, the real truth is we are all Creoles, well except for the Native Americans. As for your particular ancestry, I tracked your surname to Jean Evangeliste Gisclair, born 1733, Albi, Tarn, Midi-Pyrénées, France and immigrated to the Louisiana colony in 1754. So your surname is of French Creole stock and apparently you have French Creole ancestry (I also have a bunch of it). Jean was a soldier in the Seven Years war and was stationed at Fort Tombecbe in 1759 and Fort Toulouse in 1760. Both forts are in present day Alabama (still part of the French Louisiana Colony). Jean Evangeliste Gisclair’s wife was Marguerite Eustache Luquet, born at Fort Toulouse in 1745. Her father Pierre was from Paris and her mother Catherine Lechert Fougère was from either Biloxi or Mobile…there seems to be a discrepancy between those two. I see Biloxi on one source and Mobile on another. She was married and lived in Mobile. Her older children were born in Mobile. Catherine’s parents were both from Sens, France. There was a migration of French Creoles (whites of French and Québécois descent) from Mobile to New Orleans (and also spreading to other parts of south Louisiana from New Orleans) after the British invaded Mobile. The Mobile French Creoles intermarried with the French Creoles of New Orleans and other parts of south Louisiana. The Gisclair’s and the Luquet’s were part of that Mobile migration. Both the Gisclair’s and Luquet’s are of origin direct from France to the Louisiana Colony (Alabama area first then current day Louisiana area). Luquet also became Luquette in Louisiana (some retain the Luquet spelling however). Here I will post a list of surnames I’ve collected as of recent that were part of the Mobile migration of French Creoles to New Orleans (and from there other parts of south Louisiana)…I put their family origin in parentheses (my lists are a work in progress): Mobile Migration Surnames Guillory (Québec) Boutté (France) Berthalot (France) Carmouche (France) Latiolais (France) Trepagnier (Québec) LaGrange (France) Buras (Burat) (French Switzerland) LaFleur (Québec) Juneau (Québec) Delery (France) Laurent (France) Necaise (by way Mississippi) (France) Luquette/Luquet (France) Chenet (Québec) Rivard (Québec) Huval (France) Gisclair (France) I also have lists for French surnames and Québec surnames of Louisiana French Creoles (from the part of the Louisiana colony that makes up the current area that is the US state of Louisiana) (If you’re interested in seeing what I have) Also, I have surname lists for Spanish Creoles (mostly isleños and malagueños, but a few others from other parts of Spain) Also surnames for German Creoles (they’ve been in Louisiana since 1721) and Acadian Creoles (colonial Acadians born in Louisiana, real Cajuns…not the mixed people today identifying as Cajun). I have surname lists for white St. Domingue surnames (I made one for white St. Domingue creoles when I was creating surname lists to outline the ancestry of today’s Cajun-identified population but there are also mixed race and black St. Domingans that arrived. One third that arrived were white, one third were mixed race and one-third were black). In fact, around the same number of white St. Domingans arrived as Acadians, yet you hear nothing about white St.Domingans and everything about Cajuns. Makes you wonder right! And I also have a surname list for an Illinois migration from the upper portion of the French Louisiana colony. I have a miscellaneous surname list with surnames that don’t fit my main lists like surnames from French Switzerland, German Switzerland, Italy/Sicily, England, Ireland, Scotland, Malta, Cuba, Belgium and the rare individuals from a small French Creole Arkansas migration in colonial Louisiana from present day Arkansas to present day Louisiana. Let me know what you think about all I have said here now.

I know there's the branch of our family that migrated further down the bayou and the branch that stayed around the New Orleans area (St. James Parish, St. Charles Parish, etc.). Either way, it's always so good to meet another relative!

@@Louisianish I'm guessing you're descended from Jean Gisclard's son Jean Pierre who settled in Lafourche Parish? Many of Jean's other children "went west" and settled in Lafayette and Vermilion Parishes. I'm from that group, descended from Jean's daughter Catherine Gisclard who married a Frederick. I'm a genealogist and have done lots of research on the Gisclards in France and Louisiana-in fact there's an article I wrote coming out this week on the Gisclards in a journal called "The American Genealogist." You might want to check it out, I've traced our ancestors back to the late 1500s! J'suis content moi aussi de faire ta connaissance, cousin!

The Lefort family came to Louisiana from Nantes, France. Their Louisiana born children were called French Creoles.

Ouais! J’ai appris quèques années passées que les vieux prononcent le J pareil en poitevin-saintongeais! Nous-autres, on l’prononce comme ça seulement dans quèques p’tites régions dans l’sud-est d’la Louisiane. La balance des francophones icitte le prononce normalement (comme un J normatif français). Avez-vous vu mes deux vidéos les plus récentes? C’est d’mes grands-parents en racontant des p’tites histoires. Vous allez entendre bien le 'jh' poitevin dans leur parlajhe. 😊

@@Louisianish il a aussi du vocabulaire propre au Poitou qui est utilisé je crois en Louisiane. "Asteur", qu'utilisait ma grand mère (mais actuellement, nous utilisons le mot "maintenant", "asteur" a disparu du français standard). Ma mère dit toujours "être après" alors que moi je dis "être en train de"... On dit aussi "barrer une porte" (je crois qu'ils disent la même chose au Nouveau Brunswick) pour fermer une porte. Et puis évidemment le mot "couillon" 😃 que nous utilisons pour dire de quelqu'un qu'il est idiot, mais auss pour exprimer la surprise : "eh ben couillon"
